FT51 Radio Guide

The DoC is proud to present a resource for radio hacking and experimentation.

This reference is for the Yaesu FT-51, it is advised that people use their radio responsibly and legally.

Features

The FT-51 is still considered a top of the line HT, even after all these years. It is superior in reception to some of the more modern HTs. The FT-51 can also be modified to receive and transmit between 60-999MHz and is most likely the most wideband HT radio available at the present.

This radio also is also a true dualband unit, it can receive on one band while transmitting on another. This makes is ideal for use as a pocket crossband repeater or with a external amp a powerful portable system.

The only limitations of this unit is that it only supports CTCSS and is a little bigger and heavier then most newer handhelds (but then it is considerably smaller then the HT's of yesteryear).

A scanned copy of the manufacturers manual (English sections only) is available at http://www.dis.org/radio/radios/ft51/ft51_manual.pdf.
